This 2016 Inc. magazine article from Randi Zuckerberg (sister of Mark Zuckerberg) has resonated with me on many levels. There is a lot of truth to this – sacrifice is necessary to launch and run a successful business. She says you can only choose 3 from work, sleep, family, fitness or friends. I don’t believe this to be the case for everyone. When someone told Grant Cardone that he can’t have his cake and eat it too, he said, “then what is the purpose of cake if you’re not going to eat it.”
He brings up a great point. Who’s stopping you from having it all? “Having it all” varies from person to person.
In My 6 Guilding Principles, Family comes first for everything I do. End of story. And if I’m not healthy physically and mentally, I am no good to anyone. So sleep, eating well and fitness are paramount. Sure, there are compromises for this, but I am not a spring chicken anymore and these things grow more meaningful as time goes on. But this applies to any age.
I choose all of the above – work, sleep, family, fitness and friends because I’m passionate about everything. When you’re passionate about something, you always find a way to make time for it.
That balance can be challenging at times but just like everything else, you make it happen.
